Green Procurement Targets
1. By March 31, 2014, the CIRB will have implemented a formal process for the disposal of all departmentally-generated surplus electronic and electrical equipment in an environmentally sound and secure manner.

The CIRB has established and documented a formal process for disposal of surplus material assets, including IT hardware, that complies with PWGSC’s greening government operations. The CIRB’s Material Management section has responsibility for maintaining the policy and procedures up to date and shares responsibility with the Information Technology section for disposing of electronic equipment in accordance with the guidelines.
2. The CIRB will continue to reuse or recycle 100% of surplus electronic and electrical equipment (EEE) in an environmentally sound and secure manner.

The CIRB reuses or recycles equipment that is still functional or disposes of assets in accordance with the process established in the Disposition of Surplus Materials policy.
3. The CIRB will continue to purchase printers, faxes, scanners and photocopiers with one or more environmental features.

Network or stand-alone printers are no longer repaired or replaced when defective. Multi-functional equipment is purchased for printing/scanning/faxing/photocopying. Efforts are made to reduce the number of printers.

All printers purchased in the fiscal year have one or more environmental features, such as double-sided printing, Energy Star Program qualification or low power sleep mode after a period of inactivity.
4. The CIRB will continue to purchase paper that has a minimum of 30% recycled content.

5. By March 31, 2014, all new incumbents in key positions involved in the CIRB procurement process will take the online Green Procurement Course (C215E) offered by the Canada School of Public Service.

6. All incumbents in key positions involved in the CIRB procurement process will continue to have at least one performance and/or training objective related to green procurement. It will be integrated to the Employee learning and performance planning and review agreement.
