NEW Status of the Artist Act Procedural Regulations

Since April 1, 2013, the Canada Industrial Relations Board (the CIRB) has responsibility for the interpretation and administration of Part II of the Status of the Artist Act. As many of you know, over the past year, the CIRB has undertaken an in-depth review of the Canadian Artists and Producers Professional Relations Tribunal Procedural Regulations (SOR/2003-343), with a view to making new Regulations under the Status of the Artist Act that better align with the current policies, procedures and practices of the CIRB, while taking into account the unique circumstances of the cultural sector.

Consultation sessions were held in Toronto, Ottawa, Montréal and Vancouver between June and September 2013, during which the CIRB sought comments from the client community on the proposed amendments and invited artists, artists’ associations, producers and other stakeholders to provide their views. We would like to thank all those who attended these sessions.

We are pleased to announce that the new Status of the Artist Act Procedural Regulations are now published in the Canada Gazette, Part I, for a 30-day consultation period.

We invite you to consult the Canada Gazette website to view the proposed new Regulations. This prepublication period provides an opportunity for the community to provide comments and feedback. We ask that all comments be sent by email to Ms. Diane Chartrand, Senior Director of Strategic Policy and Planning, or to Ms. Susan Nicholas, Senior Legal Counsel.

The following certification orders have recently been renewed by the CIRB for a period of three years.
